I am tremendously excited, and a bit in awe, to have Arlene Blum coming to speak at the Berkeley Assoc. of REALTORS’ GREEN Council this week. She was recently part of the Master Speaker series at GreenBuild, the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to green building. Her talk on Wednesday, December 8th at 2 pm will be similar to the talk she gave there. She will speak about the importance of removing toxic chemicals from our buildings, especially in the form of insulation and furniture cushioning. She speaks both with passion and with tremendous authority, having a PhD in Bio-Physical Chemistry. I have asked her to also share anecdotes of her involvement with the Green community in Washington DC, and her invitation to be part of the Greening of the Obama Administration. She has the wonderful ability to crystallize the most technical material to a level that makes us all understand why it is important in our lives. Arlene is founder and Executive Director of the Green Science Policy Institute here in the East Bay. Among her many awards, she was selected as one of the National Women’s History Project’s 100 “Women Taking the Lead to Save Our Planet.†Members of the public are very welcome to join us for this rare treat to have Arlene Blum in a small group setting. We will meet at the Berkeley Assoc. of REALTORS building, Cedar at MLK, at 2 pm this Wednesday. General admission is $10 and snacks will be served. Please RSVP to me.
